Dr. Youbin Zheng
Research Overview
Dr. Youbin Zheng’s research focuses on developing science and technology for high-value plant production in controlled environments such as greenhouses and indoor facilities. His work integrates plant physiology, biochemistry, soil science, and environment management to support a wide range of horticultural sectors, including greenhouse vegetable, ornamental, and nursery plant production, cannabis production, green infrastructure, urban agriculture.
A key objective of his research is to develop environmentally friendly technologies for controlled-environment agriculture and to apply green infrastructure solutions, such as green roofs, constructed wetlands, and rain gardens, to improve environmental quality. His work contributes practical tools and science-based management systems that support sustainable horticulture and reduce water and nutrient discharge, reduce reliance on pesticides.

Dr. Zheng's Projects
Indoor Cannabis Production
This project investigates optimal lighting and rootzone management (such as fertilization strategies) to improve yield and quality in indoor cannabis production.
LED Lighting for Cannabis, Microgreen, Strawberry and Ornamental Plant Production
This project explores the use of advanced LED lighting technologies to enhance the yield and quality of different high-value plants in controlled environments.
